Kents Cavern - Prehistoric Cave with a New Age Fire Alarm, Upgrading and Rewiring the New System

Westcountry Fire Protection has recently completed an exciting project for Kents Cavern, a well-known tourist attraction located in Devon. The attraction is famous for being the site of the oldest human jawbone ever found in Britain, and with so many visitors coming through every day, it's essential that the site is safe and secure. We also installed a brand-new state-of-the-art CCTV system to help staff monitor the premises and let customers feel safer when exploring the facilities. You can view this installation here.
Who says prehistoric caves can't have high-tech fire alarms? Kents Cavern has set a new standard for ancient archaeological sites everywhere. With the help of Westcountry Fire Protection and our expertise in fire alarm systems, they can rest assured the job has been completed to a high standard. But first, let's give some more backstory to this amazing attraction.

Being one of Europe's top and most exciting Stone Age caves, with an extensive labyrinth of spectacular and easily accessible caverns open daily. It is one of Torquay's most visited attractions. Kents Cavern has an immense geological and historic interest in Europe, if not the world. It is one of only two caves (but the world's only show cave) that three different human species have occupied throughout time and is home to the oldest modern human fossil found in Britain, a 42,000-year-old jawbone.

Kents Cavern is a historic landmark that holds significant cultural and archaeological value. A fire in and around the cave system could cause damage to the surroundings, especially the important artefacts and evidence of human activity that have been preserved there for thousands of years. Having a modern, state-of-the-art fire alarm system installed can help reduce the risk of fire damage and protect the cultural heritage of the site for future generations.

The new panel will now serve all the main areas as before, plus the newly refurbished offices. The holiday rental accommodation will have its own system based on mains powered and interlinked devices such as you may find in any domestic property. This gives them their own control and independence. We are very pleased to be working with such a notable Torbay attraction, and we wish them every success with the new aspect of their business and for the future. Overall, the new HAES 2-loop addressable panel installed by Westcountry Fire Protection provides Kents Cavern with a state-of-the-art fire alarm system that is tailored to their specific needs.

With this new system in place, Kents Cavern can rest assured that they are providing a safe and secure environment for their visitors and staff, allowing them to focus on what they do best – sharing the fascinating history and natural beauty of this unique attraction. It's like we've brought the cave's fire safety into the 21st century - I just hope the Neanderthals aren't too jealous! Having a new fire alarm system installed at Kents Cavern is essential for the safety of visitors and staff, as well as for the preservation of the cave system's rich history and cultural significance.
